cindy Sherman inspired portraits
How i achieved this
By using the clothing and make up to depict characters through my photographs; I am taking inspiration from cindy Sherman's self portraits as she uses the colours of them to develop quirky characters.
For the top set of photographs, I used the red colour of her jacket the contrast against the blue top I had asked her to wear in order to draw attention to the model. The clashing colours also help get that quirky, unusual mood in the images. By using a light that was positioned to the left of the model, the shadows are projected onto the screen behind. This also means mood is created; and makes the image generally more depthful as the shadows on her features make her more prominent in the frame.
In colour photography, the expressions of the models face is crucial as it often must fit the style of the photograph and the mood that the colours create. For instance, the model in the first images is dressed in bright, clashing colours therefore I thought if it were real life she would be more extroverted and quirky. That means I instructed her to express herself in an unusual way. In contrast to this, the model in the bottom photograph is dressed in darker tones therefore her expression is less upbeat and more stern.
